Coach Aubrey bids the Team Farewell

June 29, 2014

The Stingrays bid farewell to long time swimmer and coach, Aubrey Vinke.  Aubrey swam with the Stingrays from the early 90's and then went on to coach though this 2014 season.  Needless to say, we will miss her dearly but wish her Godspeed in this new chapter of her life with Jonathan and Eva.

Coach Aurbreys letter to the team:

To my Dear Stingray families,

It is never easy to share big news. You search for the perfect words but somehow they always fall short. I guess you have to just jump in…so here goes. In just a few weeks, Jonathan, Eva, and I will moving to Florida where Jonathan will be starting his new job as Director of Worship and Arts at a church in Jacksonville. Lots of things have led up to this decision, but we feel this is the right thing for us to do.

We are very excited but sad at the same time, because we will be saying “see you later” to so many of our dear friends. You are no exception. The Stingrays have been a part of my since I was in second grade. Throughout my time on the team, and more recently as a coach, it has meant so much to me to have your love, friendship and support through many seasons of life. This team has been the centerpiece to my EVERY summer for as long as I can remember. It will be very hard to leave you but I know that the team will always be taken care of!

For all my swimmers, I want to share a little inspiration with you. You can take with you this last piece of “coaching” as you finish your season: Wherever you go in life you will be a part of a “team.” Sometimes you choose the team and sometimes you don’t. You have a family, and that is one of the most valuable “teams” that you will ever be a part of. You are also on a swim team, and a team is only as strong as each team member. Some of you may even have a church home/family, and this is also a “team” that you are on.

So in every team, we play together, we support each other, and we always do our best. When it comes to being on a team, the most important thing isn’t winning. What matters most is being part of a supporting, encouraging, loving, community, connecting with others, being known, celebrating with, fighting for, laughing with, making mistakes, and enjoying successes. These are all part of the richness of team. These things are the things that we take with us in life  wherever we go, things we remember and hold dear.

Do don’t put all your hopes on a trophy or on winning big. Winning is fun, but don’t miss out on what it truly means to be a part of a team. Don’t sell yourself short.

We will definitely not be gone forever, there are too many friends and family here for us to not visit frequently. So, while it’s sad to say goodbye, we prefer to say “see you soon!”

Gooooooooooooooo Stingrays!!!!
